While HD storage requirements are huge, not every application needs to be uncompressed. Our eXtream Series Systems powered by the award winning Leitch Altitude hardware supports variable compression, not just particular fixed rates. Also, it natively supports the full raster size HD spec (i.e. 1920 x 1080 or 1280 x 720), unlike some other HD codec's (HDV) which work with a sub sample of the raster size (e.g.. 1440 x 1080 or 960 x 720). Also, Compressed video at various rates and uncompressed footage can be mixed on the timeline without affecting real-time performance.
